VELODYNE

HDL-64E

Velodyne's Laser Intensity Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) product is the HDL-64E, a 64-element LIDAR sensor that delivers a 360-degree Horizontal Field of View (HFOV) and a 26.8-degree VFOV. It features frame rates of 5-15 Hz and over 1.3 million data points per second. The point cloud it generates is a massive leap forward in terrain and environment understanding.

Both distance and intensity data are provided in the Ethernet output packet payload.

The HDL-64E was used by five out of six of the finishing teams at the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge, including the winning and second place teams. In fact, some teams relied exclusively on the HDL-64E for the information about the environment used to navigate an autonomous vehicle through a simulated urban environment.

The HDL-64E is also in use for ground truth testing, military autonomous navigation, and mapping/surveying applications.

Iwane

The Iwane Camera Vector (CV) Technology captures both spatial and video data simultaneously, via a 360 degree camera, when it is mounted and driven on a vehicle, such as a normal saloon car. The video recorded at up to 15 frames per second, gives the result after processing, of the entire series of images fully immersing the user in a continuous series of video bubbles, but with a big difference. Each 360 degree "bubble" image processed by the Iwane technology is accurately geo-located either by GPS or reference to high accuracy control points and the entire video is seamlessly integrated into a full-featured GIS client. What's more, the 3D video data is viewed at the same time as the 2D data layers used concurrently from the GIS database. Pre-created 3D objects and symbols such as street furniture, trees and shrubs, directional signs and so on, can be placed into the video with correct x, y and z coordinates, updating the database at the same time. Existing layers in the GIS can be viewed in the 3D video images.

This revolutionary interface allows the user to view the world "as-is", in contrast to being required to mentally "interpret" 2D lines and symbols in the past. The user can quickly search for places and jump right into the correct location and begin working. This relieves the cognitive load significantly by putting the user in a spatially relevant environment.

APPLANIX

The Applanix POS AV (Position and Orientation) System integrates precision GPS (Global Positioning System) with inertial technology to enable geospatial data collection projects as well as sensory data surveys to be achieved with high accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency.

The POS AV is ideally suited and engineered for aerial cameras, scanning lasers and lidar technology, imaging sensors, synthetic aperture radars and other remote sensors that need navigational and orientation to be processed with the data collected.

The POS AV Allows for :

  • Increased savings in operational costs
Limited ground control may be required only for quality control check point purposes, eliminating the need for a full ground survey

  • Increased savings in time
The requirement for project wide tie-point matching and aerotriangulation (AT) can be drastically reduced or liminated completely, resulting in enormous savings in data acquisition and processing time

Product Highlights

Airborne Scanners: The New LMS-Q680i

This long-range RIEGL LMS-Q680i airborne laser scanner makes use of a powerful laser source, multiple time around (MTA) processing, and digital full waveform analysis. This combination allows the operation at varying flight altitudes and is therefore ideally suited for aerial survey of complex terrain.

The RIEGL LMS-Q680i gives access to detailed target parameters by digitizing the echo signal online during data acquisition, and subsequent off-line waveform analysis. This method is especially valuable when dealing with difficult tasks, such as canopy height investigation or target classification. Multiple-time-around processing allows the utilization of target echo signals which have been detected out of the unambiguity range between two successive laser pulses.
