Velodyne HDL 64 –Lidar Presentation

Venue :  Science Park Drive, Auditorium

Date : 27 Jan 2010 , 2pm

Credent Technology Asia, the premiere GIS solutions company in South East Asia will be holding a joint presentation of the Velodyne HDL 64 –Lidar (see : http://www.velodyne.com/lidar/) system for the first time in SEA.

Guests will hear Mr Mike Dunbar, manager, business development, Velodyne, speak about how the  HDL 64 –Lidar won high praises during the famous DARPA 2007 Urban Challenge. This ingeniously designed system consists of an array of 64 lasers rotating at 15 revolutions per second and outputs an astonishing 1.3 million points per second. It covers a 360 degree field of view horizontally, with an effective range of approximately 150 meters. During the Urban Challenge, the HDL64 was used by the Top Finishers – MIT, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon University, 7 of 11 finalists and 12 of 35 semifinalists. The HDL64 has gone on to become integrated into Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute’s  “UGCV PerceptOR Integration (UPI) Project”  see : http://www.rec.ri.cmu.edu/projects/upi/videos/index.htm#carson in which it plays a critical role  in the unmanned vehicle’s environmental and obstacle sensing.

The Velodyne HDL64’s ground breaking capabilities is used in other applications that include mobile mapping for the capture of highways, bridges, foliage, mining, construction and even the reconstruction of disaster scene. It is being evaluated for a variety  security applications including the monitoring of maritime sea surfaces. And for the first time, this lidar system has been used to create the music video “House of Cards” see link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyQoTGdQywY
